They're usually considered a more midwestern and southern chain, but I've found stragglers in Fresno and Redwood City CA as well.Dave wrote:For a while, it seemed like there were more surviving Burger Chef birdhouses than old Burger Chef buildings, at least around here.

There were two, maybe three in the Charlotte area: -- 10414 East Indpendence Blvd, Matthews NC (may have had Sav-a-Center interior, now Big Lots) -- 7004 East Harris Blvd, Charlotte NC (now Food Lion) -- Tower Place Festival, Pineville NC (not confirmed, but there's a building I suspect) It's intere...

One factor was probably that most retail was closed on Sunday, except for some drugstores, and their wasn't a proliferation of c-stores. In parts off NC, the blue laws even affected c-stores. I was researching something else the other day at the library and came across an article on the first 7-11 ...

Big Star stores NOT connected with Colonial
I know there was a post on something related to this but I can't seem to find it, and either way, it might merit more elaboration. Apparently, there were Big Star stores is places like Mississippi, Arkansas, and maybe Tennessee (perhaps others as well) that were not connected with Colonial Stores. I...

There was a Peaches a block from my house when I was a teenager, so a significant chunk of my early record collection came from there. I won a cpy of the first Tom Petty album the night they opened (on clear red vinyl, yet). They had an unusually good combination of prices and selection. The stores ...

Some messages from a different topic which should really be here instead: From 12/1/05: Another interesting store in Cobb was Treasure Island on Cobb Parkway at Terrll Mill, later Zayre and lastly Value City. I was pre-teen, so memories of it are vague, but I believe it was JC Penney's version of a ...

FYI, there is a preexistig thread on Treasury stores here:

I'm going to move all the Treasury-specific posts from this thread over there just to keep it neat. Sorry, it's some cleanup I should have done as the topic developed.

The first BiLo's constructed near my area, Canton and Cartersville, GA used the current logo but had a cow between Bi and Lo. Both these stores are closed recently and were both next to still operating Kmarts. As I mention in the Charlotte section of the site, about 75% of Bi-Lo's initial entry int...
