Re:

Don't forget their budget label, Scotch Buy..which has been reborn as "Simply Red" Apparently Scotch Buy wasn't around in 1968, since that was the whole list as published. And the new budget label is Basic Red -- I think a certain British music group would have legal issues with a Simply ...

Re: Here's part of what happened

In 1976, the majority of the W.T. Grant Co. was absorbed by Kmart. Grant was in bankruptcy at the time, and sold out to avoid liquidation. Kmart attempted to turn these stores into their own, but reportedly had problems integrating them into their system. Many of these stores remained open for some...

Re: 7-Eleven Stores with Full-Length Storefronts

I am going to go off-topic here for a bit and ask: how many other 7-Elevens have had the classic "three squares" logo suspended (or semi-suspended) on the storefront, as seen on two California-area stores? Supposedly on some older '70s stores that were part of shopping centers, the 7-Elev...

Re: Did Cheltenham Square ever have an A&P, Acme, Food Fair?

So that was the Milltown Plus? I have seen that Total Wine and I was not quite sure if it was an Acme. Wow, I guess Plus stores were ghosts of Food Fair, Acme, and A&P! I am familiar with Total Wine in Claymont, but are you sure that particular building was Acme? And was the Acme an A Frame? Or...

from what I can tell, the parking lot area in front of the Giant and now vacant Wal-Mart building is where the Penn Fruit was.

I also think a portion of the Giant was built on the site of the Eric Fairless Hills 3 Theatre

Re: Genuardi's locations in PA

What book? The "Family Pride" yearbook? I think they have a copy at the Marple (Broomall) and Middletown (Media) public libraries. From that book, I found out about the Yeadon store and was also surprised. That one must be the Save-a-Lot now. They mention the Acme nearby, which was actual...

Re: Recurring "new" uses for obsolete grocery stores, Phila.

There are several national retailers that seem to love older grocery stores. Again, this trend seems mostly Philadelphia-centric, but not that different from Houston. These companies have all taken over at least a few older Acme/A&P/Food Fair/Penn Fruit stores. Joshaustin610/Josh has photo evid...

Re: Safeway in Delaware

Was Safeway ever in northern Delaware? When I lived in Newark, I was told that the Possum Park Mall/Liberty Plaza was home to a Safeway, in the building to the far left where the Outback and Barstools & Billiards now call home. I was never able to verify that. Safeway's current store in Newark,...
