Re: Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips

Had lunch today at a surviving Arthur Treacher's in Parma Heights. Is this the original interior?? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/vintagefood012.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/vintagefood011.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/vintagefoo...

Re: Before and After Remodel Photos

Here are a few from an ex-Albertsons in Fresno. It had the interior with the odd bits of corrugated metal stuck on the walls and the awnings that said Albertsons over the departments. I love the use of stickers... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/DSC02832.jpg http://i51.photobucket...

Re: Former Ralphs in Fresno, CA

Actually, in the Fresno market Food 4 Less is not a Kroger operation. Their warehouse operation is FoodsCo there. For some reason, they sold off the former Ralphs instead of converting them to FoodsCo. Great pics, though, so sad to see the once great interior of this store ruined.

What exactly did happen with Handyman? I remember a few of their locations sitting vacant for years before being taken over by Orchard Supply. I still remember part of their ad jingle...

So what will happen to the name "The Good Guys", an electronics chain CompUSA bought, closed all the freestanding stores and rebranded their electronics sections to?

Aw, that's too bad! The Levitz store in Fresno had a massive neon sign dating from the 60's. Somewhere I have a picture of it lit up at night.

An exception to that would be the store in the Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno, Ca. It was built in the 70's along with the rest of the mall, but had a basement level with the pet dept, some clothing, toys, and the music dept. down there. When Woolworth's closed, the basement level disappeared. At my ol...

Fresno's Macy's opened in 1984, to be exact. It was the first expansion of Fashion Fair Mall, and the property was the site of the Starlite Drive-In Theater.

I recall the Payless Super Drug in Clovis, Ca had the Payless logos removed from the interior, but the stripe of pink paint had faded so badly you could still see Payless on the wall even though the lettering had been removed. (They did not put up a Rite Aid logo to replace the Payless, rather it sa...

The new version of Supermarket Sweep had fixtures supplied by Hughes Markets at the start, I remember the aisle hangers had Hughes logos on them, and they would get a billboard mention at the end of the show. After a few seasons this went away and the Hughes logos were removed from the aisle hangers.

I agree, that is very odd a set designer would go to such painstaking effort to recreate a Safeway interior package. I am pretty certain the interior of the store is a set, because if you look at the exterior of the "Food House" the windows don't seem to go all the way to the ground, but o...

According to IMDB, the movie was filmed in Shreveport. If you look closely at the fonts on the wall graphics in the movie trailer and compare them to the Safeway photos on this site you'll notice they aren't quite the actual fonts original to the Safeway decor. A nit-pick, I know...

Actually, that wall on the left is Dave's! The facade of the Dave's store has been renovated very recently so I thought the store was much newer than it really is.
