Re: Historical Information About ShopRite Locations (Past & Present)
I did figure out how to save a Newspapers.com clipping as a JPG file and then upload as many as three of them as attachments to a post. However, because the JPG attachments could not be enlarged, I decided to delete those attachments. And unfortunately, posting a lot of those clippings as JPGs beco...

Re: Historical Information About ShopRite Locations (Past & Present)
Although I cannot figure out how to post an image from Newspapers.com that allows one to zoom in, I think I figured out a way to share a link which allows one to view an image or article (and enlarge it) properly. Great that you provided these, but for the record the links only work for those who h...

NEW: Columbus GA, 1925-2024
More interesting than I expected, and there were so very many independent chains, franchises, and co-ops.

Re: Grand Union
Looks to have been a Grand Union new build, circa 1998, to replace a store that burned down.

Re: NEW: Vancouver WA, 1928-2000
I may have misread the year on Google Streetview. I did a newspaper archive search on the address and references ended about 2007 as well, so maybe I over-assumed.

Re: NEW: Vancouver WA, 1928-2000
Thanks. These are updated. The Padden Pkwy location did not make the list because it was apparently only open between about 2003 and 2007, which was outside the range of the list. But I have added a note about it.

Major Montréal Update
This one was a challenge and it had all the big issues: City directories were basically useless after 1960 so I had to scour newspspers for ads with locations, which were not very common. Metro and Richelieu stores were generally not branded as such for much of the period covered, so I have to re;y ...

A/k/a the Portland suburb where they actually have sales tax (since it's in another state):

Re: Unidentified former Safeway in west Fresno
My first guess based on the context of the article and the neighborhood was 354 C St. and that does appear to be it.

Re: NEW: Safeway in NYC
Other than the ShopRite on NJ 124 in Springfield ( Street View ), are there any remaining identifiable Safeway stores in the NYC area? I remember coming across the Springfield ShopRite completely by accident and wondering when Safeway was in the NYC area. Researching this former Safeway was what le...

Re: NEW: Safeway in NYC
Was "Safeway-First National" actually used on stores, or was it used to advertise both store brands? I honestly cannot say. Newspaper ads and articles refer to them as "Safeway First National stores" (or sometimes "First National and Safeway First National stores") thr...

Re: NEW: Safeway in NYC
I am pretty sure that 4028 E. Tremont Ave. store in the Bronx was an A+P. From the look if it today I'd say you may well be right. Looks like A&P may have taken over the space after Safeway was done with it in the 1940s. May even be a new building. And thanks! There will most likely never be a ...

NEW: Safeway in NYC
I'm pretty excited about this one. Safeway had a brief (twenty years, 1941-1961) run in New York, and I think this should pretty much capture every location, with only a few stragglers. I have also included the pre-acquision Daniel Reeves locations and post-acquisition First National stores. https:/...
