The Sunrise name is still there. It is the name of that shopping center anchored by Smart & Final. Looking at the storefront reminds me of the Buy Low store (former Vons) on Garvey Ave in South El Monte.

Mystery ex-grocery store in La Puente
Everytime I drive on Amar Road (block 15870) between Echelon and Del Valle (on the City of Industry section), there is this store that is mysterious. I believe it was a grocery store from ages ago - sits between a handball club and the Industry Hills Business Park. Recently it was a Super 98 Dollar ...

Re: Former Alpha Beta stores in the City of La Puente
On my way to Ed Butts Ford (former Abbott Ford in the late 1970's) earlier this afternoon, I took a glance at the former AB on Hacienda and Fairgrove. Recently it was Northgate Gonzales - closed because they acquired the former Thriftimart/Max Foods on Francisquito and Sunset (West Covina) and moved...

Re: Rancho Cucamonga chain grocer history
RandallFlagg,
On my way to Chaffey College this morning, I took Archibald and passed by the NW corner at Baseline. Thrifty is now the Rite Aid and the section that was Alpha Beta/99Cents appears to be vacant. I might double check that next Wednesday when I'm in the area again.

Re: Market Basket location question
GaryED44, Hiram's was a chain acquired by Lucky in 1957-58. That is how that store mentioned above became a Lucky. The Albertsons-Savon on Workman and Citrus in West Covina (Eastland) first opened in 1957 as Hiram's (at the same time Eastland Mall opened) and was rebranded as Lucky in the early 1960...

Re: Kmart Chef
I think Kmart Chef (or any other standalone restaurant operations) evolved to be KCafe or Little Caesar Pizza Stations in the 1990's. Some KCafe's are built like supermarket service deli's and others are sit down. LCPS are not identified as Little Caesar locations - Kmart (as a company) obtained a l...

7-11 selling other brands of gasoline
When did 7-11 start selling gasoline (either their own brand or co-branded with a major brand)? There are some 7-11's that sell gasoline other than their own brand. In Pomona, CA (57 Freeway at Temple Ave), they sell Valero . The Covina location on Grand and Covina Blvd first opened as a Chevron and...

RandallFlagg,
In your 7-11 post (Miscellaneous section), you mentioned a Mayfair Market on Baseline. Is that over by Amthyst St near Archibald?

Re: Gottschalks
As part of the complete renovation of Riverside Plaza (Riverside, CA), the owners left Gottschalks (especially the exterior) the way it looked 40-50 years ago, making it the oldest building left standing at RP (and in its original location). It did get a fresh coat of paint on the outside. I haven't...

Re: Garfield Theater-turned shopping center, Alhambra
I'm very certain that is the original building where the stores are located today. Whenever I drive by, I always picture the old "Garfield Theater" rooftop sign. If you drive by it, you can see that it is an old building.

American Stores Company operated restaurants in the 1980's
In 1984, newspaper articles about American Stores' acquisition of Jewel Companies mentioned that ASC operated restaurants. Did they mean Alphy's (part of the Alpha Beta division) or did they also operate other restaurant banners?
