New York: Food Basket

in Garden City on Long Island there used to be a store called Food Basket. It's the only one that I know of. I do not know of any others around. They closed down around 97-98. Grand Union took over the store and called it Grand Union/Fresh Market. They closed around 2003 or so I think. Now Key Foods...

New York: Plus! Supermarkets

I remember at least one of these stores in centereach.. It was across the street from a Grand Union. I think the store was an experiment of either A&P or Grand Union. It was a "warehouse" style store. They sold stuff by the case, and alot of no-name items. Does anyone else remember it?...

New York: Bohacks

Does anyone remember Bohacks in New York? What ever happened to them. I used to work with a guy at king kullen and he would talk about how he started in the business with Bohacks. I never saw one, but I think some of the OLD, small, brick a&p's were originally bohacks. There was one in centereac...

New York Area: A&P

Long Island used to be innundated with A&P supermarkets. In fact, growing up in the 70's, I remember that A&P was my mothers favorite store. In fact, just going to 1 a&p wasn't enough. She had 3 A&P's in her arsenal that she would visit during the course of the month. She used to say...

king kullen pics

I can definately get pics of the king kullen on 58. But that isnt on the traffic circle. On the traffic circle (the south side) is a shopping center with an auto parts store that could have definately been a supermarket. Back in the early 80's (possibly even before) it was a Harrows pool store, then...

BILLY BLAKES

I was actually considering writing to the paper that owns the building now. They are supposed to be moving out and Lowes will be moving in, which i am almost certain will mean the building will be demolished. I was going to write them and ask if they had any history on the building. But i didn't wan...
