Wow finally some info on this! I had asked around a while ago about the location on Atlantic in Maywood, CA and got zero feedback. From what I was told by family, that location was closed due to a fire that broke out in the early 60's. By the time I remember the store, it had been rebuilt long befor...

Fedco did have gas stations at a couple of thier locations. The ones I remember are Pasadena (caddy-corner to the store), and Ontario (in the lot). La Cinega, San Bernardino I dont recall having gas stations. I do know the Buena Park Fedco didn't have one, since it was built in an old May Company s...

The one that comes to mind immediately is up in Barstow; I know the Safeway there is now operating as Vons but not sure what the Super S is. (There's a photo of it in this site's 1960s Safeway section.) If this is the building I'm thinking of, it was vacant the last time I saw it. To the right, the...

In the late 90's I was a manger for Toys International, a So Cal based company that was originally called Play Co. Toys. At their height in 1999 they had 45 stores under Play Co. Toys, Toyco and Toys International. Most of the Play Co's were in So Cal and were about 2/3 the size of Toys R Us, the T...

I'd suspect many of those who take advantage of the shuttle service don't have driver's licenses for one reason or another. I can think of two reasons easily.

Why wasn't the Woolworth Rx (pharmacy) concept rolled out to other stores? Foot Locker (formerly Venator) did the opposite of CVS corp by divesting its variety and pharmacy operations and keeping specialty stores.

Vaguely remember the commercials, but not much else...too young. But not young enough not to realize how dumb a name that was, right when CD's were first coming out and cassettes were outselling vinyl.

His suit is the same color as that sectional! Why is he in a different outfit in every shot?

There were some MW stores that looked a bit like that, but they were double doors and had windows. I'd say either it's been extensively remodeled, or it isn't a former MW.

When I moved to Victorville in 91, there was a TG&Y still here on LaPaz. The shopping center had a Builder's Emporium, Vons, and TG&Y. The Vons is now a 99 cent store and the BE is a swap meet. Lastly, I went over to the old Safeway center in Apple Valley to see if I could get any pics, but...

There was one on Foothill Blvd in Fontana left standing and vacant, next to (also vacant) Bono's Italian deli. Since the area had become run down, there was talk about moving the "giant orange" to a new location...not sure what's become of it now.

Any pictures of the "FAD" store? Was it a full service store or was it limited? I can't find that photo online anymore.

Alpha Beta spin-offs

Years ago I had been rummaging around the internet and came across a picture of a "FAD" store in Rubidoux, CA (may have been this site). Similar to Big Star and WEO? Not familiar with those. I do remember the Skaggs Alpha Beta stores (only one I ever saw was in Anaheim), and it seemed to m...

That Albertson's facade is the same as a now closed location on Sierra in Fontana. The grocery store in the same parking lot as the old McDonald's in Downey used to be a Market Basket. And there was a very old office building in L.A. near some train tracks that I guess was once the local HQ for the ...
