Although the store here is currently owned by Safeway (as a Vons), SoCal was still another divested region and this beautiful marina in Carpinteria (east of Santa Barbara, on US 101) has been well photographed. http://www.santabarbara.com/dining/review_read.asp?pk_restaurant=1254 http://www.lindenav...

"Reverse Marina" Safeway design

This particular Safeway in Banff, AB, has a vintage photograph up on this very site: http://www.groceteria.com/safeway/slideshows/1960-vintage/05.html Looks like the letters were redone later in the 70s, but the store's still open: http://www.fmtcanada.com/img/banfftown/safeway.jpg I remember seeing...

I'm amazed that sign is still standing, but very lucky for us, there are quite a few photos of that on the web. I wonder if that's the only time Safeway did that googie/space age sign.. --- A 1960-era gable Safeway next to a 1930-era store in Penticton, BC. http://www.okanaganhistory.com/stock/large...

Re: The Akron

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but weren't there Akrons in the Bay Area as well? I seem to recall one in the Fishermen's Wharf area -- maybe at the North Point shopping center? And also in San Jose. Anyone? You are correct! There was an Akron in the NorthPointe Shopping Center along with a Mayfair and ...

What zip code in the Safeway locator would pull this store up in the results? 80205 isn't doing it... The store's ZIP code is 80302. Boulder ZIP codes are all 803xx. 802xx ZIP codes are to the south in Denver. Ah, okay, now this is making a lot more sense :) There's a 28th and Arapahoe intersection...
