Something that might be of interest here: Grand opening pictures of the Mervyn's store at Factoria Mall in March 1987: http://jana-treeclimber.blogspot.com/2013/03/factoria-mervyns-welcomes-shoppers.html It looks almost identical to the store at Kitsap Mall in Silverdale, which also opened in 1987,...

Re: McDonald's Express

I was surprised to find a shot of the McDonald's Express that used to be across from the ferry terminal at First & Washington in Bremerton, Wash.: https://static.panoramio.com.storage.googleapis.com/photos/large/34321936.jpg If memory serves, it was in this location from about 1992 to 2003. The ...

Re: Salem Center Mall, Salem, Oregon

That must have been one of the last standalone JCPenney stores to be built in a downtown area, as JCPenney was starting to make an exodus to malls during that time. I have seen very few freestanding downtown stores which had the 60s logo, and being built in 1965, this one would have had it. I wonde...

Re: Arby's signage

There is still an Arby's in the Tacoma, WA area using that old "Roast Beef" sign. I drove past it last week when I was up there. Also, the building is an old stagecoach design that has been expanded. Restrooms are still on the outside and most of the dining room is a step higher because i...

Re: Arby's signage

According to the trademark filing, the just-replaced logo was first used in 1979, but I have seen it in print ads dating back to 1977.

That new typeface doesn't look right grafted onto the old logo -- they don't fit together.

Re: Toys "R" Us in Tacoma, WA - Rebuilt from Flood?

The exterior was remodeled in 1995 to fit in with the newly constructed Boulevard Center big-box development adjacent to the store. I doubt a flood was involved, unless a sprinkler head burst or something. One thing that stood out to me about the ad is the reference to South Ferry Street -- that sec...

Re: Hardlines in older downtown JCPenney locations

I just located some Penney's ads from a 1970 edition of The Seattle Times. As was common, each department was represented by a separate ad. Above the Penney's logo at the top of each ad was "AT (X) STORES," which varied depending on the department. The largest number was on the softlines a...

Here's a complete list of all ten G.O. Guy locations from an October 1966 ad: Third at Union Burien-White Center, S.W. 128th & Ambaum Lewis & Clark Center, 160th & S. Highway 99 Lynnwood, 212th S.W. & Highway 99 N. University Village 406 Broadway E. Madison at Boren Third at Columbia...

Re: Walmart in-store restaurants

The Bremerton, Wash., store opened with a McDonald's inside in 1996 and also has a McDonald's on an outparcel. The inside McDonald's was replaced with a Radio Grill around 2000 or so, but has since reverted back to the Golden Arches.

Re: Fred Meyer and Vista Optical

Looking in the Seattle Times online archives, I found a help-wanted ad for Vista from 1984 that has a contact person at Western States Optical in Tempe, Ariz. That must have been their parent company at the time. Today they are a banner of National Vision, Inc., of Lawrenceville, Ga. Before Fred Mey...

The Basic Red name is now called Value Red in some Safeway markets, particually the Genuardi's stores I think that Basic Red or Value Red vary by product, with Basic Red being household items and Value Red being food. I might be wrong. Another similar line that has popped up at Safeway is "Pan...

Re: Edmonds, WA: Former Centennial A&P?

I also believe that the former QFC in Lakewood was also a former A&P. It had a similar design. The QFC in Lakewood was built as a Lucky store in 1978. It was built with a colonial design to match the rest of Lakewood Center, likely the first suburban shopping center ever built in the region. Th...
