Walgreens
Has anyone noticed that Walgreens doesn't specify their doors as "IN" or "OUT" making customers often use the door closest to where they park and which usually ends up being the door closest to the cash registers.

San Lorenzo Mayfair
The adress 515 Paseo Grande was a Mayfair based on my notes. However, in 1973 the corresponding address was that of a Romley's market. This was most likely a result of the 1973 Mayfair closures.

Rheem Apple Market
The Apple Market in Rheem sat vacant for at least five years. Then in 2006 Home Goods opened in the building. Coincidentally there is a TJ MAXX in the same center which replaced a Safeway in 1987.

Remaining Lucky Pylons
How many former Lucky Stores still have pylons? I am talking specifically of the ones with two or three squares. Now that the Alma Plaza location has closed and the Salinas location demolished I can only think of two remaining pylons. 1217 Tenth St., Modesto, CA. (Still the original green and yellow...

Mayfair Pleasant Hill
Yep, that's the former Mayfair Market. I went into that "dead mall" on Saturday and took some exterior photos. When I get around to it I will post them on my website PURE GROCERY STORES or my new flickr account under the name ROMLEYS.

Safeway stores in Healdsburg, CA
Does anyone know if Big John's Market on Healdsburg Ave. in Healdsburg was a Safeway store? With its exact similarities to a marina store one would think this was a Safeway almost immediately. However, every person I talked to in Healdsburg say that the store was never a Safeway; instead it was alwa...

Palos Verdes Mall
The Palos Verdes Mall in Walnut Creek, CA opened in stages from mid-1965 to early-1966. The Rasco store more of a 5c and 10c store which was a common format for smaller stores in the chain. These small stores were related to Rasco-Tempo, however I think when both names were combined the stores had a...

San Ramon Safeway and Lamorinda stores.
I will be happy to take those photos for you:) Oh, by the way the postcard showing SAN RAMON VILLAGE shows a Safeway that is currently a Big Lots. Over the past six months the shopping center went under a major renovation. All of the store facades except the former Safeway were stuccoed over and mod...

Orinda Safeway remodel
I hate to even think how this store will look after the remodel that is currently taking place. The shake roof has been stripped off the facade of the store. The marina might be exposed within a few days or weeks depending on the time it takes to remodel the store. I am planning to visit this store ...

Australia Pak n Save
There is a large supermarket chain under the Pak n Save name in Austrailia. There colors are yellow and black which tells me that the photo above is clearly one from Australia. I highly doubt that there is any relation to this chain and the Safeway Pak n Save chain.

Lee Bros.
Does anyone have information on the Lee Bros. chain. I know the chain had about 20 to 30 stores operating at one time. There were about 20 stores in the Bay Area operating at the same time. However, the chain had one store in Modesto, Sacramento, Larkspur, and Las Vegas, NV. I also have learned from...

Does anyone know where the Unimart and GEM were located? Is it where the current Kmart building is? Was the Handyman hardware store located where Circuit City is today?
