I'm not sure that this warrants a separate thread, but as a follow-up... The 7050 Katella Ave, Stanton store is also closing this week, with a similar close-out sale going on. The situation is the same, nobody at the store seems to know what the future holds for this location either. Freestanding Si...

Cerritos & Stanton Albertsons, former Luckys to close
For those of you keeping score, I've come across a So Cal Albertsons store (Supervalu operated) that is to close soon. The location is 17202 S. Norwalk Blvd., Cerritos, CA 90703. Note that the Albertsons website and panel displays have incorrectly located this store in Artesia (the zipcode was split...

Interesting... I used up my free searches, but in the process I noticed there must be a NorCal-SoCal thing going on. I found Lucky signage in the NorCal listings I opened, and Albertsons in the SoCal. Searching for Albertsons in a zip code that they don't operate in will bring up a statewide list (9...

I have another set of Gemco photos to share... these were taken last weekend: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7591905@N07/sets/72157600039445811/ This is 7212 Edinger Ave (at Golden West), Huntington Beach, CA. The front of this former Gemco looks fairly intact, even though the site was split between L...

Were these former Gemco stores, and was is more like the Ralphs' Giant format rather than Pavilions? Hmmph. I didn't think that first Clairmont Mesa Advantage store fit with any of the Gemco locations, but upon further review maybe it was the National City store. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/...

I found myself out and about with the camera again, so here's a little update - this time closer to home and with plenty of substance.... Lets start with this one: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/183/442513133_071c085d34.jpg Yes, its 13321 Artesia Blvd, Cerritos, CA - the intersection of Artesia and ...

I had some spare time, unfortunately - again - at night. Still, I think this commercial was either filmed here or at another identically laid out store, if one should exist. Re: Alexander's Markets in Socal
550 E First St, Tustin--Vons. Though it's on a different store in the center, I've never seen anyone paint their ticker symbol on their roof before. That was the symbol of the REIT that owned the shopping center. (The REIT has been bought out, so don't bother looking up the ticker.) http://local.li...

I guess everyone gave up on locating this store. Actually, I've never looked at this thread until you brought it back up to the top. (Shame on me!) Perhaps I can shed some light on this one: There are TWO Super A Foods locations here in my neck of the woods, and the one that I've been into has this...

I'm not sure if this is the same store, but the Times has an opening for a Safeway in La Mirada on Dec. 20, 1960, Imperial Hwy at Luitweiler. Can't find Luitweiler in any map. Anyone have an address for this location? I found a legal document at http://online.ceb.com/calcases/CA2/162CA2d491.htm ref...

Thanks for the shots! I like your photo of the gable in La Mirada particularly because it shows the entire front profile, a very asymmetrical gable front that I haven't seen much over in Northern California but which I've seen something like that on the DCGrocery.com collection. That CVS/ex-AB dist...

... and I'd like to share the results. I've known a few places that are rich in Southern California grocery retail history, but never got around to photographing much... until now. I don't have my own site, and I don't think I will develop one. Too much time and effort, besides, our host here has a ...

Funny you should post this link... I was recently searching through my videotapes to see if a highschool project of mine was in my collection, but unfortunately I don't have the tape... a real shame, because we filmed inside a vintage gable Alpha Beta around 1992 or 1993.... looked a lot like the on...

I have a small addition to make to my current-day Gemco photo collection. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time I want to devote to the proper photography of these buildings, but I figured I should grab a few quickies this evening. So, for starters, the Gemco I was most familiar with as a child: Cer...
