Re: West LA Marina Safeway to be close in 2011

There are still a lot out there, even though they are starting to disappear more and more.

Re: 1990's Ralphs Time Capsule: Huntington Beach, CA

Its weird that the old Alpha Beta decor is still looking good today. I mean compared to other interior packages that have come and gone since the early 90's, these still look good today.

Re: 1990's Ralphs Time Capsule: Huntington Beach, CA

If I am not mistaking, the Ralphs (former Alpha Beta) on Workman Mill Road in an unincorporated area of LA county still has the original Alpha Beta design (slightly repainted) from after they took over the store from Alpha Beta. This store is tiny compared to most and is still in operation. I havent...

Re: That used to be a department store?!

How about a whole mall converted to a Toyota Dealership (El Monte Center in El Monte, CA is Longo Toyota/Lexus today) and the former Sears anchor is an auto body shop!

Re: Montgomery Ward Locations-Southern California-1960s & '70s

Probably the most interesting re-use of a Montgomery Wards was the former store at the now abandoned Hawthorne Plaza (Hawthorne, California). The entire department store has been gutted and transferred into government offices for the City of Hawthorne. While visiting the mall a few months ago I too...

Re: Vons stores with old interiors

Passed by a VONS in Pasadena today....It's on Colorado (forgot the cross street). It looks to be a large store with the Red/White decor. The outside looks to have gotten a face lift, but the inside was left untouched for some reason.... The only VONS in Pasadena is on Sierra Madre Blvd between Waln...

Two Guys around here apparently didn't last too long....they were mostly former White Front stores then after that FedMart (which was later acquired by Target).

Re: That used to be a department store?!

The old WT Grant store in Eastland Center (2 levels, quite large), was gutted and the upper level transformed to mall shops. It was weird cause it had two small "wings" that led from the center court of the mall to the newly built Mervyns department store. The center stores were small eate...

Re: Target Chula Vista... Formerly...?

Chances are its the Rounded Entry of an old White Front Department Store. Great discovery! Probably the only rounded entry left (albeit still hidden in the front). The Michael's chances are was at one point a supermarket. The former Target in Ontario has the same identical design (look at the former...

Re: LA Safeways That Became Vons

Stopped by the Montebello VONS (former Thriftimart & Safeway). I charged my purchase. The receipt says VONS STORE 3258 across the bottom. Yet, comically, when the credit card statement arrived...it lists it as SAFEWAY STORE 3258. Jeff...have you noticed this before? Did this ever change when it...

Re: Odd layouts

All the Food 4 Less stores here and Superior Markets here make you go through the produce first then you can go down the other aisles in the back of the store by the meat/dairy. Both chains have almost identical layouts, except F4L has the Bakery and Deli usually in the back behind produce, while Su...

Re: Hemet CA

Plenty of commercials for the new WINCO in Hemet have been airing. Did they assume a vacant location? Negative, they are building a store ground up: 94,000-square-foot WinCo Foods Supermarket is expected to anchor a new major retail center on the northeast corner of Florida Avenue and Myers Street,...
