Re: Burger King in Clash "Rock the Casbah" Video
I think that it must be the one at 2700 Guadalupe Street because the roof of the one in the video has a straight bottom edge on the bottom across the front, as does the Guadalupe one. The one on Ben White (1001 E. Ben White) has a section of the front edge that cuts down where the two front doors a...

Burger King in Clash "Rock the Casbah" Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ9r8LMU9bQ There is an old BK in this music video by the British rock band The Clash, the song is "Rock the Casbah" (1982). The video was filmed in Austin, TX - so, could anyone here identify exactly where this BK is and, if it still exists? At the time of t...

OT: Gas Stations
Where do I go, if not here, to discuss all about pre-1990 gas station architectures, for stations like Texaco, Union 76 and Shell? The reason I am bringing this up is because I want to talk about Union/Unocal 76 gas station designs through the years. I know their famous motorized sphere sign was fir...

Re: Remembering the 1st McD's with a Drive Thru
Would you happen to have any pictures of these Mickey D's somewhere in your vault?Groceteria wrote:A lot of the locations in NC were simply expanded (in numerous directions) and operated without problems for decades. Some even retained the exterior restroom access. Most now seem to have been replaced.

Re: Burger King Architecture and Signage, 1969-1974
That commercial is righteously funky! It appears the lower trim is the same color as the lighted upper trim. I also seem to remember this logo with red letters, was that when HOTW was all on one line, or just a variation? It was likely a variation. On BK's official website, there is a timeline with...

Remembering the 1st McD's with a Drive Thru
Does anyone remember the original premiere McDonald's with a drive-thru - in the town of Sierra Vista, AZ? It was hailed as the first McD's with a drive-thru, opening on January 24, 1975. Unfortunately, in May 1999, it was shut down and then demolished so that there would be parking for its replacem...

Re: Older McDonald's Locations
I have to point out there are at least three Portland, Oregon-area "Mickey D's" that are older than store #425 (9100 SE Powell Blvd.). These locations are: 12109 NE Glisan St. in Portland (store #203) 9475 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. in Beaverton (store #330) 2875 SE Powell Blvd. in Portla...

Burger King Architecture and Signage, 1969-1974
Hi, Here is a 1974 Burger King ad. Watching the first few seconds of this clip, you will see not only the old BK "Bun Halves" (v1.0) logo, but also the legendary header "Home of the WHOPPER" below that (in red text on white banner). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4YAcsAe6UI The ...

1993-1994 Burger King Architecture
Does anyone remember what the common architecture of a 1993-1994 Burger King restaurant had looked like? I am referring to when they last used the original 1969 version of the Bun Halves logo, when, during 1994, they changed the text in the logo (freshening it up).

Remembering This BK (707 West Burnside Street)
Have any one of my fellow Portlanders here ever went to this BK, which had opened in 1978 and had shut down sometime in the 1990s? Throughout its lifetime, both as BK and thereafter until being demolished recently, it was notorious for attracting unwanted guests. It was at 707 W Burnside St. in down...

Re: Burger King ads
Who remembers this one from 1987? This plugs the Hot Toppers special. But what is interesting is the last few seconds of the clip, where they show exteriors of a then-present BK (its outside sign reads "DRIVE THRU" in white text on red background, seen below the BK logo) and an older one (...

Re: Can Anyone Decipher How Old This 7-Eleven Is?
I am led to believe the remnants of the shingled roof were originally red instead of brown.
Here in Portland, Oregon, the 7-Elevens seemed to go for the flat mansard roof (as is seen here) after about 1973.

7-Eleven #12980
Hi, If you look at the Street View for 7-Eleven #12980 -- 5797 West Overland Road in Boise, ID -- you will still see the original pylon sticking out behind the flat mansard roof that had been added on in the late '70s-early '80s. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=5797+Overland+Road,+Boise,+Ida...

7-Eleven Stores Torn Down and Rebuilt
Hi, Were there any 7-Eleven stores that had been torn down and rebuilt through the years? I can think of two in the Portland, Oregon area: #14491 - 11310 NW St. Helens Rd. #14495 - 7115 SE Powell Blvd. Both these stores appear to have originally opened in 1965, and originally had some sort of mansar...

Re: Old Fred Meyer Stores w/ Separate HI&GCs
To add to your list: 3184 Ocean Beach Highway, Longview, WA Store opened in mid-70s. Major remodel in either 1989 or 1990 moved the Sporting goods, Automotive, Home Improvement, and Garden Center to a seperate building, immediately in front of the store, which, ironically, was an old Marina Safeway...
