Oh yeah, that spreadsheet mentions that drawings are available for those Safeway designs, as well as some photograhy...are those hiding in the archives somewhere at UC Berkeley?

That brings up a good question: was that architectural firm responsible for creating the Marina design in the first place?

Here's an article from 7/21/1997 that briefly states that the Safeway on North Shoreline Blvd was expanding at the time. Scroll down to the subheading of Bailey Park Center. Per the same article, it looks like Safeway was (as of 1997) no longer an anchor of the Walgreen's shopping center I mentione...

The former marina Safeway (now TJ Maxx) is at 472 center st. in what is now Moraga. This is just a little street that runs through the shopping center. The shopping center itself is at the intersection of the main roads Moraga Rd. and Rheem Blvd. Thanks! I might want to check that out at some time ...

And speaking of Pacific Super, here's two photos of that Daly City ex-Safeway location: http://theignatianperspective.blogspot.com/2006/06/slice-of-filipino-diaspora-part-ii.html My parents just told me it was Safeway up into the early 90s, but considering that I remember it as Pacific Super as earl...

Re: Rheem, CA Marina/Pylon Safeway - where exactly is Rheem?

Using Mapquest and Yahoo to find Rheem both point to a location near Richmond Parkway and Giant Hwy in the Richmond area, which seems too industrial for a Safeway location (I drove near there a couple of days ago). Then again, that might be it (as it is the only town with that name that either map ...

Actually, the 4950 Mission Safeway is close enough that Safeway probably would've considered it a "consolidation" or at least have publicized it that way at the time. The Lucky store you mention was at the southwest corner of Geneva and Alemany. An apartment complex was recently built the...

Rheem, CA Marina/Pylon Safeway - where exactly is Rheem?

On Charles Hathaway's great supermarket photo site, he has this 1960s gem of a 1950s pylon and its next-door 1960s marina replacement right on the same street: http://home.comcast.net/~evchathaway/wsb/html/view.cgi-photo.html--SiteID-2061440.html Using Mapquest and Yahoo to find Rheem both point to ...

Re: San Francisco: Bayshore Boulevard ex-Marina Safeway

The "when" was between 1980 and 1985, and the "why", I imagine, was the changing neighborhood demographics. The area went from being fairly solid middle-class to being much less affluent in a relatively short period of time. I'd be willing to bet the store closed about the same ...

I want to say it might be the latter store, but I can't say for certain...I DO remember the circle S being present there as of the mid-late 90s (1997, 1998). I might drive by the area and search for it at some point, though with time the likelihood it's still there is diminishing... I do remember th...

Mountain View: Safeway with old circle S sign?

It's been years since I passed by this one, but I distinctly remember a Safeway a mile or two off of US 101 in the Mountain View area, in a shopping center, with the classic circle logo...anyone know which location I am thinking of?

I think I was the person who mentioned (on the old board) the Daly City SWYs... Here are the sites I can think of: Westlake - current, and in fact only SWY in the city of 107,000 inhabitants. (For comparison, the city I grew up in, South San Francisco, has only 60,000 or so residents, but currently ...

From my recent storegeeking in SF, apparently the interior of the 30th Street/Mission Street Safeway is being remodeled, but I don't think anything's going to be done to the exterior...at least not yet. Then again, that's San Francisco...

San Francisco: Bayshore Boulevard ex-Marina Safeway

(For those who are wondering who I am, I posted on the old board under my first name Chris for quite some time tere, I'm a long-time Bay Area resident who's posted about several SSF/Daly City sites, particularly the Purity on Hillside/Spruce, a former Marina Safeway on Washington Street near Juniper...
