Re: Cleveland, OH: What was this abandoned store??

Ah, Uncle Bill's! I never think of them since I wasn't in these parts when they existed.

Akron, OH: Acme Market

A very nice store, was it always an Acme or was it something else previously? I loved the architecture in any case. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/acme01.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/acme011.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/acme012....

Cleveland, OH: What was this abandoned store??

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/abandonedstore01.jpg It's on Lakeshore Blvd. and was last a Big Lots. The front looks familiar, and I want to say it's an old Zayre but am not totally sure. Edit: From a 1980 newspaper ad, I see that the only Zayre in Cleveland proper was at Dennis...

Re: Supermarkets in the Movies and TV

Yes, the producers of Adam-12 were usually very good about obscuring store names. I remember one episode where they filmed at a liquor store, they had put black trash bags over the sign!

Re: Westlake, OH: Former A&P?

Ah, thanks for that information! I was pretty sure this was an A&P, but since it's actually the first ex-A&P I have come across I wasnt positive.

Westlake, OH: Former A&P?

Image

This is at the intersection of Dover Center Rd. and Detroit Rd. It operated as a Discount Drug Mart until they built a new store across the street. Am I correct in guessing this was originally an A&P?

Re: Former Alpha Beta: 500 Blk West Marshall Bl, San Bernardino

I've always taken my interiors with a regular camera and have had no problems. I just take the picture real quick and put the camera back in my pocket. However, this isn't always possible if the store is super busy.

Re: Thriftimart inside Montgomery Wards, Fresno

Yes, the Wards in Fresno did become a Target. That Smart & Final store has been there since the mid 70's, so it would stand to reason that they just converted it to S&F from Thriftimart. (The sign said "Smart & Final Iris Co." for years until the center was remodeled a few year...

Re: Lakewood Hgts Blvd, Cleveland, OH

Ah, so it's always been a Rego's. It's a nice little store, and I am curious what it looked like before it was remodeled. (Yes, it's just barely within the Cleveland boundaries)

Lakewood Hgts Blvd, Cleveland, OH

This building is currently the independent Rego's Market, but what was it originally? Kroger? The interior has a very nice gray terazzo floor, and has recently been redone with recycled wall fixtures from an old Tops store. (Rego's bought the old Tops in Westlake, so I am making the assumption that ...

Re: other historical operations of Albertsons/American Stores

There was an Albertsons/Payless combo location in Clovis, Ca (Seperate stores next door in a strip mall). The Payless Super Drug lasted until Rite Aid bought them and is currently divided into three shops while the Albertson's closed after a short time and became the independent Bad Boy Market. Bad ...

On that "Thank You" fixture, theSmith's logo also looks odd, as some of the letters are smaller than the rest. Looks very crude and amateurish.

There was an episode of Adam-12 where you can see a Shopping Bag roadside sign, but I don't recall exactly which episode it was.
