Wild guess...could this be the former Dave's store on Shore Center Drive (before Dave's moved across the street in a former Tops)? The old Dave's store is a former A&P. The aisle signs and floor tiles do look like A&P leftovers.

This location was never a K mart, since K mart already has a Middleburg Heights store on Bagley Road. I think an electronics store (I think Fretter) moved in after the Pick-N-Pay closed. I know that there have been various stores in that building after Cooks closed.

The Super K mart on Brookpark Road is a new-build...it was never anything else. This store replaced a K mart a few blocks east at Brookpark and Ridge Roads, which is currently a Best Buy and a Staples, with a couple of vacant stores. When the former K mart building was first remodeled, Best Buy's ne...

I do recall Goodyear in that building, now that I think of it. The A&P was nearby, but I think the building was later demolished. I do recall an A&P in the East 93-Kinsman area, and an early 1960's ad had an East 93rd Street address, in the 3500's (don't know the exact number offhand). The f...

Also, I think all three of these styles of Pick-N-Pays (Euclid Ave, Hough Ave, and Lakewood) were originally Foodtown stores. It was posted earlier (either here or at Remembering Retail) that the Hough Ave. Pick-N-Pay was originally a Foodtown. Foodtown later sold out to Wrigley (a Detroit chain), a...

Also, after Pick-N-Pay closed that East Cleveland location, a Revco (later a CVS) drugstore was in that building, which replaced a smaller Revco at Euclid Ave. & Taylor Road. Family Dollar moved in after CVS closed. The store once had "PICK-N-PAY" in white letters inside blue squares u...

Dick's Sporting Goods is in the same building as Burlington Coat Factory at Southland. I think the Federal's was across the street, in a building (which there was a major fire last night) that currently houses B & B Appliance, Value World (a thrift store), Murray's Auto Parts, and Party Place (a...

JC Penney had two Southland stores at one time; the original dry-goods store, which is now a Marc's, and a clothing store that opened in the front plaza, probably in the late 1960's/early 1970's. That store was destroyed by a fire in the early 1980's, and after it was rebuilt, is now a Marshall's. I...

Burlington Coat Factory was a former Halle's. I think a couple of other retailers share that space as well.

In "changing" inner city neighborhoods, often times the large windows of supermarkets and other retailers would get bricked in or boarded up, sometimes with smaller glass about 6-8 feet up from the sidewalk, in order to make the stores more secure in case of an urban riot. In the 1966 Houg...

As for the Boardman Tops store, it is now a Target. The building was added on, and the former Tops entrance (which still has a clock above it) is now a storage/shelter area for shopping carts. I drove by there today. The cornerstone from the former Tops store is no longer there.

This is in one of the pillars near the front entrance of the Kamm's Plaza Tops store that was taken over by Rego's. At this location the carts still say "Tops Friendly Markets" on them, there was an attempt to paint over this on the handles but the paint has worn off. http://i51.photobuck...

I don't know who supplied these non-Seaway chains; could have been Flickinger from Buffalo or the predecessor to Super Valu in Massilon. Super Valu, itself, had a good sized presence in Cleveland during the 60s in an odd collection of places and had a few stores until the early 80s. Never knew wher...

Re: Former Fisher Foods, 101st & St. Clair-Cleveland, OH

"Does anyone know how long ago "The Number" was a lottery game?"

"The Number" was the original name for the Ohio Lottery's 3-digit daily number game. It is now called "Pick 3".

I noticed that this store, "East Town Eagle", brought back the "Eagle Supermarkets" logo. I doubt it very much if someone would come into this store, thinking it's either a Giant Eagle or is connected with Giant Eagle. (I believe GE/Riser supplies the store). I do recall back in ...
