Yes, Loblaws opened in the mall out on the arterial (NYS Rte 30-A) in the fall of 1972. It was closed by the summer of 1976 and Price Chopper moved in that fall and remains there to this day and have expanded the store at least twice in the interim and now even have a drive thru pharmacy sort of on the side in the back of the building. To expand on Acme's presence in Johnstown/Gloversville, after combing through some old city directories (GREAT resources for this kind of research by the way), I did find out that Acme did indeed operate two stores in Johnstown from sometime in the 50's until probably the late 60's and the Gloversville store hung on until January 1970. All three buildings are still standing to this day and are still in use as various other entities: one is a clinic for the local hospital, another is the headquarters for the local agency serving people with developmental disabilities and the third is now a hair salon/beauty spa after being a beer distributor and later an auto parts store.

Coincidentally that was the year Food Fair (and Penn Fruit with it) went out of business. I would not be surprised if Acme ever extended into New York City like Pathmark (especially the Bronx), upstate New York, or New England.
Acme made it's return to New York state in 2015 when they acquired 70+ A&P locations from the bankrupt A&P company
