Supermarkets on 60 Minutes CNBC

Post by paul3124 »

An episode of 60 Minutes on CNBC recently featured a story on supermarkets. It was an interesting look at the industry. It was heavily focussed on Whole Foods. But, during the show, several other chains were referenced and some photos of stores shown. Three or four times A&P was shown; the store being shown was a centennial which looked to be very recently remodelled. Signage read "A&P Fresh". Per chance, does anyone know what location that store is? Also, does anyone know what is the oldest A&P store still in operation?

This might not count, but until a few years ago, the oldest A&P by far was way down in New Orleans in the heart of the French Quarter. This store opened in 1931 and was sold to a local chain called Rouses around 2008. And this store along with a few modern A&Ps in the area kept the A&P name until that point, even though the next closest A&P-owned stores were in Philadelphia, which were renamed Super Fresh years ago. I went to the French Quarter store on vacation last week (I live in the Philly area) and it seemed to have been remodeled to have a Super Fresh look in the last 10-15 years.
