Here are some ads I found in the digitized newspaper collection at the Hillsdale, NJ, library featuring the openings of several local supermarkets in the Hillsdale Local of 1956 and Pascack Valley News of 1979:

The collection is limited, and though the Westwood Grand Union (opened roughly the end of 1982) and Emerson ShopRite (opened November, 1981) opened during the periods digitized, they apparently did not advertise their openings in the newspapers available. As far as I know, all known collections of the more thorough local newspaper of this time, the Pascack Valley Community Life, have been destroyed.
