Acme, Parkesburg PA.

This store was opened in 1969, and closed in 2003, a year after a Wal-Mart Supercenter opened in nearby West Sadsbury, along US 30. I visited the store in either 2002 or 2003, but I hadn't been back since it closed. I was surprised to see it in pretty much the same condition, minus all the equipment, cases, and shelving. All the retail development is centered around the Supercenter now, which is less than two miles from the center of Parkesburg.

Acme claimed that the store had become unprofitable in it's later years, and the Wal-Mart coming to town didn't help matters any.

Yes i worked in that store back in the late 80!s for a few weeks .It was the last remaining unit of Acme!s Lancaster District. I was up there a few weeks agoand was amazed at the condition of that Shopping center , and the condition of the abandoned Charlies Super Thrift and Shopping Center at the other end of the town. What A shame!
However if any one wants to see the twin of this store Travel to route 213 and Morgeneck Road in Chestertown Maryland and even though it was renovated four years ago a Buthcher Block and a new Deli was Added a partial wall was taken down to give a walk way to the store next store to ad a bakery and An enlarged Produce Department it is the same store, with most of its original features intact.
