Acme in Delaware, Past and Present

I would like to build a directory of old and new Acmes in Delaware. Sorry about the random order. Gerry, any details would be great!

CLOSED:

1. Claymont (Northtowne Plaza, opened 1969, now Total Wine?)

2. Claymont (Harvey Road, A Frame, opened 1964, subdivided?)

3. Wilmington/Newport (402 N. Maryland Ave., now Aaron's, opened 1956?)

4. New Castle (now Save-A-Lot)

5. Seaford (A Frame, now Save-A-Lot)

6. Dover (A Frame, now Christian day care?)

7. Wilmington, Merchants Square (actually two stores, one was to become Marshalls, not sure about second one)

8. Millsboro (A Frame, expanded/remodeled early 2000s, but now medical center?)

9. Wilmington (A Frame, was later A&P Plus, now Total Wine?)

10. New Castle (opened 1957?, now Rite Aid)

OPEN:

1. Fairfax, Wilmington (opened 1962?)

2. Trolley Square, Wilmington (A Frame, remodeled 1970s?)

3. Pike Creek (opened 1970s, remodeled but no pharmacy thanks to Eckerd/Rite Aid next door?)

4. Hockessin (down the road from Pike Creek)

5. Smyrna (current store built early 2000s, replaced A Frame? New one built next to a 1975 A&P/Super Fresh.)

6. Dover (in front of Dover Downs racetrack/casino)

7. Wilmington at Naamans Road/US 92 and Foulk Road/US 261 (across from Genuardi's/Safeway)

8. Newark (new-ish Acme with Starbucks)

9. Prices Corner (opened 1959, expanded/remodeled)

Hi,
Hi you forgot the Acme in Middletown De 10 years old replacement for the unit on Green street, which was a replacement for a unit of penny street. The store is to be renovated this new year.
As for the stores that closed
Dover on Route 13 next to the Blue Hen mall closed with the Down town store the day the new store on 13 opened. The store was tor down and replaced by the Kent County building.
Harrington Delaware on Main street became Rays IGA and now is a Day Care.
Seaford and A Frame became a Sav A Lot
Milford across from the Walmart now a SavALot
Lewis on route 1, closed became and independent that sold harware and groceries
closed and was tore down now part of the Lowes parking lot.
Delmar a large brick Acme in the same lot as as Safeway( now and Idependent) and a MeatLand store also closed .
Claymont de a 1930 model Acme which share a building with and A&P on the Philly Pike across from the Post Office. Now is a prino Hogie Store and I believe a Aquatic Fish Store.
Five Points on Maryland Avenue replced by the one on Germay Drive

Hi,
A few more from the 30!s
3rd and French street
32 nd and monroe
600block and Monroe
700 block King Street
700 Block and Madison Street
900 BlockUnion Street
All In Wilmington De, all opperating till the mid 50!s or late 50!s
Also on Ekton Road in a strip center north bound lane now a Rite Aide closed and replaced by the new Elkton Road store.
Also the Downtown Newark Store on the main street i in the Newark Mall closed and beame a Marstand Unfinished Furniture Store.
Miltown Shoping Center A Frame closed in the early 80!s became A&P Boxstore closed and now is a wine @ More Store.

Hi, Sorry I forgot the Acme At Route 72 and 40 in Bear De as part of the open list.
Also, you can ad the former Acme in Georgetown De ( sorry I cant recall the adress)

Harrington Is South of Dover about 15 miles and is the Home of our State Fair and Harrington Race track and Casino. Also the home of our last Drive in Theater closed in 2002. If you visit obey the speed limits. It is alsoo nown as our states biggest speed trap!
