Hi, I noticed a few threads talking about Jewel Food Stores, and was curious if anyone has any information or pictures of the Jewel Store in the Weathersfield Commons Shopping Center. It was the first Jewel in Schaumburg. There were actually 2 Jewels in the center over time. The first one was a smaller one, opened in 1962 closed in 1970. The new store was about double the size and was open from 1970-1989.

I can still remember the inside and outside of the store vividly as my family went shopping there every Sunday... even though I was only 8 1/2 when the store closed.

I too grew up in Schaumburg and remember many times walking to Weathersfield Commons with my sisters to go to the Ben Franklin or the Hardware store that was there. My father was a truck driver for National Tea from 1956-1976 so we hardly ever shopped at Jewel until after National closed in the Chicago area. There are some great pictures of Schaumburg including a couple of shots of Weathersfield Commons on the Schaumburg Library website
http://www.stdl.org/ then click on local history.

thanks. i think i've seen the Jewel picture on the stdl site. that's the first Jewel in the center, which later became the True Value. The second Jewel is where India House Restaurant is now. That's the store that we went to, which I have never seen a picture of.
