Re: What is a groceteria?
I presume it's a term used similarly to cafeteria versus cafe. Wherein a Cafeteria is a 'quick stop' cafe of sorts where one typically gets their own food and pays a cashier (http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=cafeteria). In the case of a Groceteria versus a Grocer; one would get their own groceries and pay a cashier (of course, in the olden days, you'd go to a grocer, tell them what you want, and they got it for you).
I think we all learned something today. I know I did.
Fun Fact: "Grocteria" in Wikipedia redirects to the Vons page, as their roots come from a small chain called Von's Groceteria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groceteria

yes it is......I believe originally from the Latin language.
loosely translates to "shop", "market", "place"
carniceria.....meat shop
zapateria....shoe shop

Latin origin, I can see, but I don't think it's spanish... the spanish term for Market would be Mercado.Steve Landry wrote:yes it is......I believe originally from the Latin language.
