Albertson's Question

I have a question about Albertson's stores: did they really ever use to have two stores located about 20 blocks away (in select cities nationwide)?

I know they did have stores on SE 82nd Ave at SE Holgate Blvd (4400 SE 82nd Ave) and at SE Division St (2323 SE 82nd Ave) for a time from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s, the Eastport store obviously being older.

Albertsons today has several stores in Boise that are relatively close to one another...1650 W. State Street, 3614 W. State Street, and 7100 W. State Street. There was also the long-closed Maxx Food & Drug (later Max Foods) located on Glenwood that was not far from the 7100 W. State store. I will also add that the Albertsons at 1653 S. Vista Ave (which replaced an older store on the same site that used to face Overland) used to have an address of 2625 Overland, there is also an Albertsons at 5100 Overland as well as one at 10500 Overland.

It seems logical to have a lot of stores in what was once Albertsons home town. As for other locations, a lot of it probably has to do with population density in any given area.

Montebello CA at one point in 2006 had 3 Albertsons-owned stores at the same intersection (Via Campo/Wilcox):

Max Foods, which is now a remodeled Albertsons. In the 1970's, the first Albertsons store opened in the adjacent Office Depot.
Albertsons-Savon, a former 1960's era Lucky closed in favor of moving into the Max location, building is now Smart & Final Extra 522
Savon Drugs, which is now CVS Pharmacy.

Between 1999-2006, many Southern California Albertsons locations had Savon Drugs adjacent to the supermarket or within a very short distance away. 3 examples:

- 60 Freeway at Grove Ave in Ontario. Albertsons-Savon (former Lucky) with adjacent CVS (former Savon Drugs, first opened as Clark Drugs).
- Walnut: Albertsons-Savon on Nogales/Amar and less than a mile south on Nogales is a CVS (former Savon Drugs). This is also similar in Diamond Bar (on Diamond Bar Blvd).
- Alhambra (Valley/New) - Lucky (Fazio/Max Foods) near CVS (former Savon Drugs).

Predecessor Alpha Beta was also like this. The Rosemead location had Alpha Beta with an adjacent Hy-Lo Drugs and in the parking lot was an Alphy's.
