72nd St. Goodwill, Tacoma, WA former grocer?

I was in Tacoma yesterday and stopped in at the Goodwill at 1415 E. 72nd. This building was interesting. The front had an unusual looking appearance with arches and glass blocks. Inside, there was a raised ceiling area at the back center, which had warehouse-style mercury vapor lights, while the rest of the store had a suspended ceiling with strip fluorescent lights. Worth noting is that those lights had covers.

The building hints strongly at a former grocery store. There is a Safeway at the intersection, as well as a Kmart across the street. The back center area hints at a possible produce or meat department. But in all honesty, I am not really sure what this one used to be and wonder if anybody else knows the history of this one.

It was built as a Piggly Wiggly in 1977... the Tacoma-Puyallup Piggly Wiggly stores became Hogan's Market around 1990. Hogan's locations were split between QFC and Safeway in 1995, but this store didn't make the cut for either company.

The Dollar Tree was originally a Giant T/Thrifty, then went to Pay 'n Save and then PayLess.

Piggly Wiggly? Interesting. That explains why I couldn't pinpoint what chain. I did see the Dollar Tree store but didn't go inside.
