Old Safeway in Lodi, California

Post by coyote180 »

Here is a recent photo of the building that once housed the Safeway in Lodi, California that is at the top of the Groceteria.com Message Board. It was a Grocery Outlet for a while and is now a Smart and Final. I remember visiting this Safeway many times as a kid.

Thanks for the photo. It's always interesting to compare and contrast common scenes then and now.

I think those Safeway pylon stores look downright pitiful shorn of their original signage, though...

The Lodi News-Sentinel newspaper is on Google News Archives now. This $450,000, 21,000-square-foot Safeway opened November 2, 1955 on the site of one of Lodi's first schools, the Salem School. It closed October 14, 1995. Photos showing the pylon sign can be seen in these articles;
