23920 Ironwood Ave - Moreno Valley, CA

Post by storewanderer »

By using the following links and modifying the end file extension accordingly 01 02 03 04 etc all the way up to 74, many photos of this store are available. I went to the liquor license site, but there is no record of a license at this address prior to 1992 and the license issued then looks to be an independent.

All I know is the checkstand lights look to be from Smart and Final, the aisle hangers look like something I saw at some Cala or Bell (possibly Tiburon Blackfield), and the checkstands look familiar but I cannot place them. So this store looks pieced together with equipment from other auctions.

However, the floor looks similar to older Albertsons floors with the tan stripes. I cannot really see any other signs of Albertsons here, though. The angled entry doors also are not something I ever saw with Albertsons. Maybe this is an old Boys or something?

Perhaps someone can go check this auction out if they are so inclined. I wouldn't wear very nice clothes, and maybe would consider wearing gloves. This store is becoming a Fresh and Easy.

It was a Cardenas Meat Market before El Centro Market. I would be surprised if it was ever a major chain supermarket. It doesn't look big enough but I could be wrong.

Alpha Beta, Vons, and Mayfair all used the pattern of florring as well (Mostly in the late 70's and early 80's).

I was thinking the flooring looked like what Vons used in the 80's, back in the days when they had the netting and plastic fish hanging over the seafood department.

Vons was located down the street on Ironwood and Perris, so rule out Vons (which is now DD's Discount).
Food 4 Less is on Perris and Ironwood as well, this was I beleive a Ralphs at one point.
Albertsons was located on Perris and Sunnymead, then it was a Grocery Warehouse, Max Foods, then now Cardenas.

The building seems way small for a market, since most of them were built in the 70's/80's that are north of the freeway. I wonder if it was originally something other than a market.

The store is 22,000 square feet.

The positioning of the store in the shopping center over the satellite makes me wonder if it was originally a supermarket too, or something else.

Whatever it was, the floor looks original.

The fact that there are no liquor license records for this address prior to 1992 is suspect.
