There has been lots written about Market Basket stores that were here in Southern California, including lots of photos of the outside of the stores (especially the Spanish-themed prototype of the 70's and 80's and laticed-pylon of the 50's and 60's).
What I haven't seen much of is interior photos. I was looking at Pleasant Family Shopping the other day and a blog about a Kroger Superstore built in 1973 in Portage, Michigan. I couldn't beleive it... This store had the EXACT same interior as the pylon Market Basket at the corner of 3rd & La Brea in Los Angeles (now a Ross Dress for Less Store). Down to the yellow/gold plastic lighting fixtures above the checkstand. Obviously this must have been a Kroger prototype of the day but if there is anyone out there that wondered what a Market Basket looked like inside this is a dead ringer:
