Payless had 11 stores operating in Las Vegas when Rite Aid took the chain over. I know a few were still open earlier this year when Rite Aid tucked their tail between their legs and left Las Vegas, including one on Rainbow next to an unremodeled former Lucky now Albertsons (this store had been remodeled inside and downsized), one on West Sahara in the 3000 block which was unremodeled, and one down on Boulder Highway in Henderson which was unremodeled.

Thrifty had left the market, selling their stores to Sav-On by 1994. The 1994 deal involved about two dozen stores in NV and AZ. The only location I have for certain that I know is open and operating as CVS is down in Boulder City. I didn't pay too much attention to CVS's stores down there.

Here's a Thrifty ad from 1972. The Nellis unit was bulldozed for a Super Walmart. The address for the downtown unit doesn't exist, although it looks like the building survives.

fremont still exists as something else, if you look at old postcards, you will see the thrifty neon sign...

Tonopah Hwy is now Rancho Dr, that location is now Save-A-Lot, i believe, as i heard the welfare building used to be Safeway...

i have always wondered what was at Decatur/Vegas in the big dirt lot, was the Thrifty there or where Habitat for Humanity is?

The Fremont Thrifty is Tiffany's Gifts now, at 317 Fremont st. This was the first out-of-california Thrifty, opening October 1952. It was two stories, with furniture and other big items sold on the second floor. The building was originally a JC Penney.

The Thrifty is Beauty Supply Warehouse now, and still uses Thrifty's pylon sign.

From the same website I found out that the Thrifty was JC Penney, JC Penney moved east on Fremont to where the Fremont Medical Building is now.

By June 1976, there was also a Thrifty somewhere along E. Charleston Blvd. in Las Vegas. I'm wondering if that was the current CVS at 1812 E. Charleston Blvd?

I have no idea where this is/was, but Thrifty Drug had a store in the Sunrise Pavilion (shopping center?).

current CVS is a former Sav-On, the Thrifty could have been part of the shopping center when it was the Charleston Plaza Mall, which was demalled (possibly demolished and rebuilt?) in the late 80s with a Lucky and Sav-On....

Here's another Thrifty ad. I think Maryland and Karen is now OfficeMax.

The Habitat building on North Decatur is an original Food Fair and later a Pay N PaK Hardware. The vacant lot of a former Wonderworld and the very first Lucky's in LV. (Originally a Wonder World Discount Foods that Lucky's bought)

The East Charleston location is a vacant lot in front of Lowes. It was a Thrifty next to a Safeway. Later it was a The Furniture Store next to J&J Market and later a Food Giant Market. Food Giant closed and the furniture store took both buildings.

Remember The Furniture Store TV ads where "James" the spokesman acted like he was Telly Savalis with a lollypop?
