Former IHOP locations

Post by Dean »

In San Bernardino CA on Highland Avenue, noticed a former International House of Pancakes (IHOP) location. It is now CASA SANCHEZ.

The original sites were large "home"-looking sites.

Wondering if many others still exist.

There's one former IHOP in Bellevue WA near the corner of Bellevue Way and Main that is now occupied by a Korean restaurant. It appears to have been built sometime in the mid-1960s, and shows up in some 1969 photos in the Eastside Heritage Center's collection.

There's also another of the older style IHOP restaurants in the Overlake area of Bellevue which is still an IHOP, alhtough it's gone through a number of remodels over the years. Based on HistoricAerials, it was built sometime between 1968 and 1980.

There are a ton of those out here.

There is one in Montebello that was an IHOP until late last year, when it became Alexanders.
There is another one in Pomona on Holt and East End that hasnt been an IHOP in years.
There is one that is an IHOP still in Covina, Arcadia, West Hollywood, and more I'm sure I cant rememeber.

NC has a at least three still operating as IHOP that I can think of offhand: Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, University Parkway in Winston-Salem, and Battleground Avenue in Greensboro.

Last time I was there, there were also still-open locations on Lombard Street in San Francisco, on El Camino somewhere down the Peninsula, and in Bakersfield (I forget the street), among others. But you'll have to map those yourselves...

The Raleigh and Bakersfield locations still had original exterior signage as well, as I recall.

As an addendum to the above post, here is a link to the 1969 photo of the former Bellevue Way IHOP.

Jeff, the Whittier Boulevard location in Whittier, west of Colima Road...

Still there? As IHOP or something else?

No, torn down about 5 years or so ago.

The sign is still there (or was still there).

There is one in Reno, NV just north of the intersection of South Virginia and Plumb.

There is also one in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Both are still open as IHOP.

Such tiny kitchens in these units.

San Bruno still has an active "cottage" location on El Camino Real, while the Arden-Arcade area in Sacramento (at Watt/El Camino) has one that has been closed for about a year or two.

Is this the site immediately on the corner as you turn into the center?

I found a couple of the old-school ones in Detroit:

19505 Grand River, Detroit, now a Corned Beef restaurant

449 N. Wayne, Westland, now a coney island

And one that's still open:

Found this while looking for something else in the Google Books Life Magazine archives. It's a list of all IHOP locations in 1967.
