First Taco Bells in Portland, OR

Post by StoreLiker2006 »

Does anyone know when Taco Bell opened its first locations in Portland, OR? Since the chain was based in Glendale, CA, where it was established in 1962, it probably wouldn't have taken them long to get there.

There was a pretty early prototype on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy by the former Jafco-now-Uwajimaya parcel by the mid-70s.

Would anyone care to guess how old these Portland-area Taco Bells really are?

9350 SE Stark St:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Tac ... a=N&tab=wl
(As you can see in the Street View, people are working on the exterior. I'd think this started out as a mission-style building and then they extensively reworked it circa 1988.)

4933 SE Powell Blvd:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1& ... CBkQtgMwAA
(I'd think of this location to be older due to the size of the building.)

725 NE Weidler St:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gl=us ... CBkQtgMwAA
(The building seen here looks rather unusual for a Taco Bell, leading me to think it was something else before TB took over around circa 1988.)

6560 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gl=us ... a=N&tab=wl
(This location was mentioned by VibeGuy; the original lettering had been replaced during the 1985-93 period, but rather awkwardly, though.)

12605 SE Division St:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Tac ... a=N&tab=wl
(This location appears to date from the early 1980s due to the size of the building; the road sign is definitely mid/late 1980s because the road sign has replacement graphics and paint.)

5036 NE Sandy Blvd:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=503 ... CBQQ8gEwAA
(This appears to be among the last of the mission-style buildings.)

1024 NE 82nd Ave:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gl=us ... CBQQ8gEwAA
(Along with the location at 5036 NE Sandy Blvd, this appears to be another of the last few mission-style buildings to be built; Taco Bell would use a plainer architecture starting in late 1986/early 1987.)

15855 SE McLoughlin Blvd (what's left of its Taco Bell past):

11635 SW Pacific Hwy:
http://maps.google.com/maps?um=1&q=1163 ... CBQQ8gEwAA
(This appears to date from about the late 1980s/early 1990s - I'd bet this location moved to 13305 SW Pacific Hwy recently)
