Remembering the 1st McD's with a Drive Thru

Does anyone remember the original premiere McDonald's with a drive-thru - in the town of Sierra Vista, AZ?

It was hailed as the first McD's with a drive-thru, opening on January 24, 1975. Unfortunately, in May 1999, it was shut down and then demolished so that there would be parking for its replacement that was built just next to it.

Is it true that after the success of this very location, that McD's then began a program to demolish most of its older buildings chainwide (those without drive-thrus, including those with the huge golden arches that we fondly identify with the company) and replace them on the same location with buildings with the drive-thrus? Some of these older locations may have just been expanded out back (if it is possible to do so) to include the drive-thru.

A lot of the locations in NC were simply expanded (in numerous directions) and operated without problems for decades. Some even retained the exterior restroom access. Most now seem to have been replaced.

Would you happen to have any pictures of these Mickey D's somewhere in your vault?
