530 Whitehall Road wins this city's Frankenstein award. It's a 1960s-era Kroger store that was expanded outwardly and laterally into a Superstore and given an ultra-freaky, flattened version of the familiar Superstore facade! The location was also listed as Plumb's before Kroger came around, and Plumb's after Kroger left. Very strange...

Yes, the Whitehall store is an odd one. I found it odd that Kroger had actually taken over one store from a local chain, which was not really their M.O. at the time.
Unrelated: I've been reading the sad story of Muskegon Mall today. Essentially, Muskegon bulldozed most of its downtown commercial district in the 1970s to build a mall that was rather successful for 10-15 years, but then was itself torn down, leaving the bleak and hellscape that is today's downtown Muskegon. I don't imagine it will ever really recover.
