SFGate.com reports that the Safeway store at 3071 Stevens Creek Blvd., Valley Fair Shopping Center, is closing. See: https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/bay ... 401939.php

The article states that store has been open for 67 years, which would place the opening date circa 1956. I don't see any listing for a chain grocery store at that address on the following webpage:

I also cannot find a store listed at that address on the Safeway website, even though the store apparently has not yet closed. See: https://local.safeway.com/search.html?q ... =5655&l=en

Given Safeway's mergers and renovation pushes over the last couple decades, it's impressive (if bittersweet) that a store survived with the early/mid-1980s backlit "ribbon leaf" signage until now! Maybe not as impressive as an untouched 1956 store would have been, but old enough in 2023 to be interesting in its own right.

It opened January 1957, and the sign tower is original. At the time, it was the second largest Safeway in Northern California-after Market & Duboce SF. The Super S drug was added next door in October 1963.
