Wnetmacman earlier posted about that store in this very thread:
Henderson had three distinct examples. The original store was just north of downtown at the corner of Van Buren and Depot Sts. This was a pylon store. When Safeway moved out, it became a Brookshire Brothers store. The replacement was a Marina store on S. Main at Richardson. This store was also occupied by Brookshire Brothers after Safeway moved. This store is now a health club, since BB moved down the hill to an old Kmart.

From page W8 of the June 1960 Chain Store Age...a photo of the mural at the Santa Barbara gable, at Victoria St and Chapala (now Vons):
http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/swy-chapala.jpg
From the article on the same page, "Safeway, Jordano's open prestige units in Santa Barbara":
The Safeway market at Chapala and Victoria Streets, has been designed to conform with the Spanish-Colonial architecture of the city. However, the real attraction, and one that has drawn architects from locations throughout the West, is an exterior wall made up of murals. The murals, in six panels, relate the history of Santa Barbara from pre-Conquest days. Each panel is 13 feet high and 18 feet wide.

Turns out the Blackfen, UK gable, which I had posted a 1986 photo of earlier in this thread:

stayed Safeway even into at least 2001.

Note that the UK Safeway sign used here is slightly different from the original letter-plate location, which has been converted into four windows (with the middle three plates being obscured by the new sign).
