A Utah store that Roadsidepictures found which has a marina-like design:

However, Roadsidepictures thinks it's an ex-Safeway:

I'm not so sure, myself...

11/14/06: Here are a few marina-like buildings I have found through looking at the Chain Store Age archives...
National Food, from the April 1959 issue: http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/national1.jpg
Siegel's Super Market, Richmond VA, also from April 1959 (page E40): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/siegels.jpg
Food Fair, October 1959 (page E10): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/foodfair.jpg
Eagle, Milan?, Illinois, November (I think) 1959: http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/eagle.jpg
General Supermarkets Shop-Rite, NY/NJ area?, November 1965 (page 60): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/shoprite.jpg
Dunham-Bush air conditioner ad, unknown store, November 1965 (page E29):

Piggly Wiggly, Crystal Lake, IL, June 1965 (pages 4-5): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa ... allake.jpg
Heinen's, Cleveland, May 1960 (p. 18, GE ad): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/heinens.jpg
Piggly Wiggly, Vidalia, GA, June 1960 (p. 64): http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa/pw-vidalia.jpg
Albertson's, Bountiful, UT, July 1960 (p. E20) - probably the one marina-like store that is very reminiscent of Safeway's
prototype: http://dtcwrt.earlracing.com/stores/csa ... ntiful.jpg
Non-Safeway Marina-style stores

Re: Non-Safeway Marina-style stores
Justin Karimzad referred earlier in this message string to the Food Bowl on McKee Road in San Jose, Calif. There are 1950s or '60s photos of this supermarket on Calisphere:

Apparently this was called the Ann Darling Shopping Center. A date of "1956" is given with these photos. If so, could this "Marina-style" supermarket pre-date the Marina-style Safeway stores?

Amazingly this Food Bowl supermarket still exists (albeit now Asian-oriented) - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gas+% ... eb!6m1!1e1Jason B. wrote:Justin Karimzad referred earlier in this message string to the Food Bowl on McKee Road in San Jose, Calif.
